2021 SPINandoah Recap

March 13-14, 2021

Stay Plugged In partnered with Shenandoah University out of Winchester Virginia to bring the first esports recruiting event of its kind. Students came from across the eastern seaboard to compete in a LAN event for a chance at furthering their esports career with over nine collegiate programs present with representatives. Players were granted the opportunity to compete in Shenandoah’s state of the art esports arena. The arena is equipped with 20 full PC setups for students to compete. At this LAN there were over 35 in-person participating players in four titles, Rocket League, Overwatch, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros: Ultimate. Students competed in a COVID safe environment with all safety and protective protocols taken into consideration and followed.

Students and parents were able to connect with colleges at the event and also sit in on esports panels with guest speakers from Stay Plugged IN staff as well as college representatives. The panels gave insight into the growing space that is esports and how students can use their in-game skills and experience to open up doors to further education and future careers. Students were able to learn first hand from Shenandoah Esports athletes about their day-to-day life and what opportunities esports has granted them.
